Legal Heebie Jeebies

I haven’t commented in the past about the legal profession. It always seemed to be on a never-ending growth binge. Well, the tide seems to have turned. The legal recruiting firm of Lateral Link recently commissioned a survey and found that attorney anxiety is high–and rising. Law firms were always largely insulated from economic downturns, but not this time around, and cutbacks have already occurred at major firms. Among associates (non-partners), once an island of security even when the economy fluctuated, there is a fear of being fired. According to the survey, the hardest hit are real estate and deal lawyers. Not surprising, considering that the acquisition guys are still twiddling their thumbs, waiting for action to resume.
