LOS ANGELES-Mounting turmoil in the capital markets and the economy is drawing even greater numbers of real estate professionals to the upcoming Apartments 2008 conference. Richard Kelley, executive director of the RealShare Conference Series, tells GlobeSt.com that at least 1,200 registrants are expected to attend the Oct. 2 RealShare event at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles—a figure that will be up significantly from last year.

Kelley attributes the increased interest in the all-day conference and networking event to the current state of the economy and the commercial real estate markets as well as “the gravity of the financial situation and Wall Street crisis” which is a vital concern to those in the commercial real estate and multifamily arenas. He notes that attendance is up at all of the RealShare events this year as industry professionals and those who serve the industry look for answers to the many questions posed by changing market and economic conditions.

To that end, Kelley says, this year’s Apartments 2008 conference will include a lineup of nearly 60 speakers and panels designed to address every facet of the multifamily market, its relationship to the industry in general and other industry issues. The event will feature a presentation by CMBS pioneer Ethan Penner, now with CB Richard Ellis Investors, who will discuss “exactly what went wrong, where things are headed and why,” Kelley says.

Following registration that begins at 7 a.m., the RealShare conference will start with an 8:10 a.m presentation by Hessam Nadji, managing director of research servicesfor Marcus & Millichap. Jadji will examine the latest economic and market conditions as he presents the Marcus & Millichap outlook for the multifamily industry and the economy in 2009.

Among the full day of panel sessions is one that is entirely new this year, a property management session. “We realize that when times get tough and margins get thin, good property and asset management become more important than ever, so we added a session specifically for this topic,” Kelley says. Other panels throughout the day will focus on finance and the capital markets, the impact of the housing crisis on commercial real estate, traditional and value-add investment, green buildings, technology and more.

Other highlights of the day will include the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Martin Stolzoff, founder of the Real Estate Conference Group, by Preston Butcher, founder and CEO of Legacy Partners. Stolzoff is known as a pioneer in producing real estate industry conferences, including the annual RealShare apartment conference, which is now produced by Real Estate Media, a division of Incisive Media. Following the end of the presentations and panel sessions at 4:50 p.m., the event will conclude with a cocktail reception and networking session.

Apartments 2008 is one of an annual schedule of RealShare events that are produced by Real Estate Media, which is the publisher of GlobeSt.com, Real Estate Forum magazine, Real Estate Southern California magazine and a host of other offerings from parent company Incisive Media. Incisive Media is a leading provider of specialist business information for commercial real estate, legal, financial services, risk management and marketing professionals.
