TEANECK, NJ-Gov. Jon Corzine and developer Carl Goldberg are the headliners of a highly topical agenda slated for the upcoming RealShare New Jersey conference. The seventh annual event, scheduled for Oct. 16 at the Glenpointe Marriott here, is expected to draw more than 600 top-level real estate executives. The RealShare Conference Series is produced by Incisive Media’s Real Estate Group, publishers of GlobeSt.com, Real Estate New Jersey and Real Estate Forum.

RealShare New Jersey has always brought numerous contentious issues to the fore, and this year is no different. But this year, such issues as the state budget, proposed toll hikes, the state’s competitive posture vis-à-vis its neighbors and Trenton politics are all exacerbated by the down economy and the recent financial industry’s meltdown.

As the program’s scheduled keynoter, Gov. Jon Corzine will take on those issues and explain his administration’s efforts to address them. He’s also expected to give a pep talk for a new 12-bill legislative agenda put forward by a coalition of business groups aimed at turning the tide of the outflow of businesses and generally making New Jersey more business-friendly.

Indeed, leaders of that group, dubbed the Smart Growth Economic Development Coalition, will themselves form a general session panel to explain their ambitious agenda. Headed by attorney and group founder Ted Zangari, the coalition got off to a solid start in September when the initial bill of the package, the Permit Extension Act, was approved by the legislature and signed into law by Corzine.

Also on the program is the popular Inside the Real Estate Mind presentation. This year’s subject, Carl Goldberg, who will be interviewed by Incisive Media VP and group publisher-real estate Michael G. Desiato, brings a very unusual public-private perspective to the table. On the private side, he’s a principal and co-founder of well-known planned community developer Roseland Property Co. On the public side, he’s simultaneously serving as the state-appointed chairman of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority, where he’s credited with turning the state-owned, formerly all-sports Meadowlands Sports Complex into a major commercial real estate engine.

Finally, a Town Hall Meeting panel made up of some of the state’s top real estate executives will provide an in-depth, candid overview of all the current issues facing the industry. The group will consist of Mitchell E. Hersh, president and CEO of Mack-Cali Realty; David Cohen, Northeast regional director of GE Real Estate; Ray Sohmer, senior managing director of CB Richard Ellis; Peter Sudler, president of Sudler Management Corp.; and Charles Klatskin, managing director of Jones Lang LaSalle, and Real Estate New Jersey editor Eric Peterson will moderate.
