HUNTSVILLE, AL-Construction has begun on the $71 million Advanced Technology Robotics Research and Development Complex, with official ground-breaking recently taking place on the first phase. The construction launch tops off a two-year process involving a search for an ideal campus for the robotics institute.

The complex is being built on a 53-acre site across State Highway 31 from Calhoun Community College’s Decatur campus. According to Calhoun’s web site, the three-phase project will consists of a Robotic Maintenance Training Center, the Advanced Technology Research and Development Center and the Integration and Entrepreneurial Center.

The web site also notes that the first phase, coming in at a $14 million to $15 million cost, has an 18-month anticipated build-out. No time frames have been issued for the second and third phases.
