FLORHAM PARK, NJ-Atlantic Health will start construction by mid-year for a 100,000-square-foot, four-story medical facility dubbed the Atlantic Sports Health Institute, with completion slated for mid-2010. Atlantic Health is the parent organization of Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown and Overlook Hospital in Summit.

“Located between Morristown Memorial, which is a state-designated trauma center, and Overlook Hospital–home of the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute–the new facility is a natural addition to the community,” says Joseph A. Trunfio, Atlantic Health’s president and CEO. “It will bring world-class sports rehab services and prevention programs to athletes of all levels and all ages, from student-athletes to seniors.”

The facility will rise on the northwest end of The Green at Florham Park, a 268-acre mixed-use, master planned development being joint ventured by the Mt. Olive-based Rockefeller Group Development Corp. and the Roseland-based Gale Real Estate Services Co. on the former Exxon Mobil research campus. In addition to the new sports institute, Atlantic Health in 2008 acquired the naming rights to the new $75-million, 120,000-square-foot New York Jets headquarters and training facility within the development.

“Atlantic Health’s presence in the development, along with the New York Jets and a Marriott Renaissance ClubSport, which combines a 250-room hotel with a 75,000-square-foot health club and spa, continues to add to the success of the project,” says Les Smith Jr., RGDC’s executive vice president.

“The sports institute will bring needed services to the market,” says Gale president Mark Yeager. “Locating it in Florham Park will make the town a destination for people who need specialized sport care. It’s a great addition to the business community.”

As work is set to start for the sports institute, the cost of which has not been disclosed, Rockefeller and Gale continue to develop the other phases of The Green at Florham Park. Next up for the partners is more than 730,000 square feet of class A office space slated to begin construction in 2009. The space is being developed to Gold LEED-certified standards.
