PHILADELPHIA-Furniture chain Raymour & Flanigan is signing a lease at the Goldenberg Group’s Columbus Commons power center here, filling a 35,308-square-foot space that was vacated by Linens ‘N Things late last year. The store plans to open in June at the center, which is located at Christopher Columbus Blvd. & Snyder Ave.

Liverpool, NY-based Raymour & Flanigan has 87 locations in the Northeast and is looking to expand. Columbus Commons opened in 2004. Other tenants in the 643,810-square-foot center include Ikea, Best Buy and Champps.

Adam Rosenzweig, director of leasing of the Blue Bell-based Goldenberg Group, says Raymour & Flanigan executives were interested in the space because they were targeting a location in South Philadelphia and having trouble finding a location. The deal comes at a good time for the Goldenberg Group because of the recession’s tough leasing environment, he says.

“Right now, the environment is definitely challenging in terms of tenants wanting aggressive deals,” Rosenzweig says.

The Linens ‘N Things space was one of three in Goldenberg Group’s portfolio, when the home furnishings chain liquidated last year. Rosenzweig says that he is close to leasing one of the other two. Goldenberg Group, which owns 15 centers, is also close to leasing one of the two Circuit City stores shutting in its portfolio, he says.
