ST. LOUIS-Ballpark Village, the project here in downtown St. Louis that has been in the planning stages for years, is still just an idea. According to the St. Louis Business Journal the Missouri Development Finance Board did not include the necessary state approval for a subsidy package on today’s agenda. That means at least another month’s worth of delays.

The project is slated to go up across the street from the new Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals. A variety of plans have been suggested for the 10.5-acre site by developers the Cordish Co. and the St. Louis Cardinals, but nothing can move forward without the board’s approval.

The St. Louis board of aldermen signed off on up to $188 million of incentives. The total will be based on the project’s final development plan. The state finance board still needs to approve the package.

“The process of review for complex projects such as Ballpark Village takes multiple meetings,” Department of Economic Development spokesman John Fougere told the St. Louis Business Journal. “We also feel that it is very important to make sure that the finance board’s newest members have all the information they need to make an informed decision on projects under consideration. Further, we must be sure that all due diligence steps are complete before the board takes official action.”

As GlobeSt.com reported, through the summer the empty site will house a softball field and food vendors in order to make the grounds more attractive and cater to the large number of tourists expected in the city for the All-Star Games.
