BROOKFIELD, WI-Stonewood Village in Brookfield is receiving a $15 million facelift. The 35-year-old complex owned by developer Mike Shutte will add 80,000 square feet of retail and office space to the 30,000-square-foot, 8-acre complex.

According to a reports, Brookfield’s Plan Commission recently approved the first of three phases. Development at this stage will include the building of a 4,500-square-foot retail building.

Stonewood Village is located on West Capitol Drive and was first constructed in the late 70s. The original farmhouse, built in the mid 60s, still sits on the property and was the inspiration behind the Williamsburg-style development. The Siepmann Farm House, as it’s called, will remain in the original location, despite Shutte’s proposed plan to move the facility to a different location or tear down the farm house entirely. The Brookfield Plan Commission rejected that part of the proposal, after hearing opposition from some aldermen and members of the Elmbrook Historical Society.

The retail complex contains eight buildings, counting the farmhouse.

The time frame for the project is still not confirmed, as the development speed will depend on Shutte’s ability to line up financing.
