LONG ISLAND, NY-The New York State court of Appeals has refused to hear Taubman Centers’ appeal regarding its planned Syosset shopping mall, according to the Long Island Business News. The 750,000-square-foot retail center has been contested by the Town of Oyster Bay, which won a ruling in January of this year claiming the town has the right to ask for an environmental impact statement from the developers. Taubman was seeking to appeal this ruling.

Taubman can walk away from the project or move forward with a different project. The town simply did not want a mall in its neighborhood, but was not necessarily opposed to any development of the site. It is reported that Simon Properties funded a fair amount of the opposition against Taubman’s mall project.
