HOUSTON-A 122-room, newly designed Holiday Inn is the final construction project at the mixed-use Westway Park on the west side. The recent groundbreaking of the hotel on two acres effectively wraps up build-out for the 150-acre, master-planned project.

David W. Hightower, executive vice president and chief development officer for Westway Park developer Wolff Cos. says the hotel, scheduled for completion in spring 2010 at Clay Road and Sam Houston Tollway, will add a different type of hospitality service to Westway Park. Once completed, the Holiday Inn will be a full-service hotel, offering a full-service restaurant, business center, meeting facilities and Holidome pool.

“It offers a little better opportunity for guests to eat without having to drive around to find a place to go,” Hightower comments. “Westway Park has a pretty significant concentration of companies and a large amount of people who travel nationally and internationally. This hotel offers traveling business people a place to stay with hospitality services.” He tells GlobeSt.com that the facility is Westway Park’s first full-service hotel, and the second one of its type in Texas.

The project is also Westway Park’s final one following years of development. Wolff Cos. originally acquired the land for Westway Park in the 1970s, long before the busy “Energy Corridor” in the far west submarket, and long before development from Houston’s center core began spreading out. The local developer began working the project in the 1990s, and since that time, has seen a variety of build-to-suit projects go vertical, in addition to supplying speculative space as well.

But Wolff Companies isn’t ready to hang up the development shingle any time soon. The company is working on various projects such as Interwood, Ten Oaks and Park 10. Hightower says more is planned, but declined to mention details.
