WASHINGTON, DC-Bob Peck has been tapped as Commissioner of Public Buildings at the General Services Administration–a position that is essentially head of one of the largest real estate organizations in the world with its annual budget of $8 billion and a work force of more than 6,200.

Peck held the same position during the Clinton Administration. His duties put him in charge of the asset management, design, construction, leasing, building management, security, and disposals of 354 million square feet of government-owned and leased space.

These buildings house one million federal workers. More recently, GSA received funding, like every other government agency, under the stimulus act,in this case to take $5.5 billion of additional funding and retrofit and upgrade federal buildings. GSA did not return a call to GlobeSt.com in time for publication.

Peck most recently served as managing director of Jones Lang LaSalle, where he advised corporations, governments, and nonprofit institutions on real estate portfolio strategy and on public-private, mixed-use developments. Prior to joining GSA in the 1990s, Peck worked at the US Office of Management and Budget, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Federal Communications Commission. He was also associate counsel to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and chief of staff to the late US Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Peck succeeds David Winstead, who recently joined the Real Estate Department of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll.
