Recent figures calculated by a firm called Kronos suggest the retail employment picture is looking up. According to its data, 2.99 of every 100 applications for a retail job resulted in a hire, up from 2.75 in January, which was the lowest percentage in three years. But that is much lower than the three-year high of 7.1 that the firm recorded in October 2006. Seasonally adjusted hiring rose to 42,000 in July.Kronos tallied the numbers from the payroll software it provides to 68 different retailers. Executives of the firm would not reveal its retail clients, according to a Bloomberg article. On the face of it, this sounds like good news.
