BIRMINGHAM, UK-Retailer Marks & Spencer has signed a contract to lease the newly completed, 382,000-square-foot facility at ProLogis Park Stoke here. The company is also poised to occupy a one-million-square-foot distribution facility during the second half of 2010. ProLogis is building the facility for the company.

“ProLogis’ flexibility has resulted in the smooth and swift completion of this third-quarter transaction and has provided Marks & Spencer with a new building that provides additional distribution space in Stoke-on-Trent,” says Jonathan Buck, UK first vice president of development for ProLogis.

The ProLogis Park Stoke is an hour away from the Birmingham city center and has access to the A500 carriageway from the M6 motorway at junction 15, according to a release.

“Our relocation to a new site in Stoke-on-Trent will give us even greater flexibility and efficiency in our supply chain operations,” says Jason Keegan, head of general merchandise logistics for Marks & Spencer. “Our ongoing relationship with ProLogis enabled us to move quickly when the opportunity became available and we look forward to working with the company in Stoke-on-Trent.”

The lease terms were not disclosed. GVA Grimley, Lamonts and North Rae Sanders represented ProLogis in the deal while Cushman & Wakefield worked on behalf of Marks & Spencer.

The one-million-square-foot building is being constructed at ProLogis Park Bradford, a 90-acre business park in Northern England. As GlobeSt.com reported the facility will include two buildings totaling 1.i million square feet. The industrial hub is being built to achieve a carbon neutral status.

When the project was first announced in September of 2008, ProLogis had plans to further develop the park with additional office and industrial space.
