WHEELING, IL-Morgan/Harbour Construction has finished work on the Village of Wheeling’s new $13 million public works facility. Situated on 11 acres at 77 W. Hintz Rd., the 150,000-square-foot building offers 120,000 square feet on grade and another 30,000 square feet in mezzanine and second floor space. The building represents a significant expansion from the 85,000 square feet the village’s public works department was previously located in a block away at 233 W. Hintz Rd.

“The village is undergoing a face lift with some of their buildings, and they already had a new village hall and fire station,” Warren Seil, president of Woodridge, IL-based Morgan/Harbour, tells GlobeSt.com. “They really need these facilities because everything else was dated and they had outgrown. They had owned this land for some time, and it has good access to the village from Hintz Road.”

An open house was hosted Friday to give the public a look at the new facility. Designed by Palatine, IL-based Harris Architects, the four-bay maintenance facility also offers a 2,000-ton salt dome, its own diesel and gas fueling stations, 15,000 square feet of office space. It was designed with the ability to receive bridge cranes in the future. Jacob & Hefner Associates, of Oakbrook Terrace, provided civil engineer services for the project.

Morgan/Harbour began work on the project in April 2008 as one of its first forays into municipal work. “This is a little bit of a new venture for us,” Seil says. “We would definitely like to expand into this sector of the world, and this is a good example of our ability to do that.”
