CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA-Round One, a Japanese company that operates 103 family-oriented entertainment centers in Japan, has signed a 59,000-square-foot lease for its first US location at the 1.1-million-square-foot Puente Hills Mall, according to New York City-based Robert K. Futterman & Associates, Round One’s exclusive representative for its expansion into the US. David Friedman, a San Francisco-based vice president with Futterman who represented Round One in the Puente Hills Mall transaction, tells GlobeSt.com that construction is expected to begin soon on the Round One location, which will open in 2010.

Round One entertainment centers feature bowling, video games, karaoke, billiards, darts and other activities in a family-oriented environment. Friedman says that the Japanese firm chose the Puente Hills Mall for its high-traffic location and the demographics of the area with its high concentration of families in nearby communities. Puente Hills Mall is located along the 60 Freeway at Azusa Avenue, with 300,000 cars passing by daily, Friedman notes, and the mall’s AMC 20 movie theater complex is one of the busiest in California.

Financial terms and the length of the Round One lease were undisclosed, and Friedman declined to say how many locations the Japanese company might open in the US. The Puente Hills Mall is owned by the Columbus, OH-based Glimcher Realty Trust REIT. In addition to the AMC 20 theater, anchors include Burlington Coat Factory, Macy’s, Ross Dress For Less, Sears and Forever 21.
