MCLEAN, VA-The 5th annual Northern Virginia RealShare conference will be convening Dec. 1 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner here, with some 300 local real estate executives expected to attend, according to Colleen McShane, Group Conference Manager of the RealShare Conference Series. RealShare carved out a separate conference for Northern Virginia when it became clear real estate activity in the submarket was strong and distinct enough from the District to support its own conference. This conference, she tells GlobeSt.com, will be offering a retail component for the first time, as the sector appears to be holding up somewhat better than nearby Washington and Maryland.

That is not to say Northern Virginia has escaped the ill effects of the recession. Much of the discussion during the half-day conference–both in session and out–can be expected to focus on survival strategies for leasing, finance and investment sales.

The conference is kicking off with a presentation from the General Services Administration, a key tenant in the area. It will be followed by a Town Hall presentation “Onward and Upward in 2010″ moderated by Susan Carras, senior managing director of Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman. Speaking on the panel will be Doug Fleit, CEO of America’s Capital Partners, Mark Levy,Vice President & Regional Market Officer of ProLogis and Joe Stettinius, CEO of Cassidy & Pinkard Colliers.

Janis Schiff, partner at Holland & Knight, will be moderating the retail panel, which will host participants John Asadoorian of Asadoorian Retail Solutions, Grant Ehat, principal of JBG Rosenfeld, Jonathan Hipp, president/CEO of Calkain Cos., and Scott Spector, managing member of Kodiak Properties.

Nelson Migdal, shareholder at Greenberg Traurig and Brian McVay, EVP of Cushman & Wakefield, will participate on the concurrent leasing opportunities panel. The event will cap off with a finance panel – a topic of understandably key interest to most attendees–moderated by Cliff Mendelson, managing partner at Metropolis Capital Finance.
