DALLAS-Henry S. Miller Jr., best known for his acquisition of the historic Highland Park Village shopping center in Highland Park and for building a commercial and residential real estate nationwide network died Saturday following a brief illness. He was 95.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Miller took over the small real estate company founded by his father, Henry S. Miller Sr. in 1919 and expanded it into a nationwide residential and commercial property business. Miller Jr.’s career began in insurance while he attended Southern Methodist University. He graduated in 1932 with his degree in business. Following a stint in the U.S. Army during World War II, he joined his father in real estate sales. By the mid-1980s, Henry S. Miller Co. had gown to 41 offices and more than 1,300 employees. In 1984, the Miller family sold the company to Grubb & Ellis Co.

Miller still kept his hand in real estate, managing Highland Park Village shopping center in Highland Park, TX that he acquired for $5 million in the 1970s. The company sold the center earlier this year for $170 million. Miller also developed the Preston Royal Shopping Center in Dallas. At the time of his death. Miller was chairman emeritus of the Henry S. Miller Cos. and Henry S. Miller Interests Inc.

Miller is survived by his four children and their spouses, Vance C. Miller and Geraldine “Tincy” Miller; Patsy Miller Donosky; Henry S. Miller III and Angela Ahmadi Miller; and Jacqueline Miller Stewart and Peter B. Stewart. He is also survived by a sister, Carmen Miller Michael, and her husband, Ludwig A. Michael, 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
