MIAMI-The South Florida Business Journal reports that occupancy rates have finally halted their downward trend and are starting to inch upward. The article says that, according to data form Smith Travel Research, rates were up throughout Palm Beach County and Miami-Dade County.

The data indicated that Palm Beach County occupancies were at 48.5% from 45.7% the same time a year ago. Meanwhile, Miami-Dade occupancy inched up to 59.7% from 59.6%, while Broward County’s reports were more or less flat, up to 55.5% from 55.4% the year before. Smith Travel Research data indicates occupancy across the U.S. was at 40.7%, down from 41.5% year over year.

Daily rates, however, continued to fall. Broward experienced the steepest drop at 13.4%, with rates falling from $100.37 to $86.88. Rates in Miami-Dade County fell to 124.78 from $132.32 (a 9.8% drop) and those in Palm Beach County dropped 7.6%, from $136.51 to $126.16.
