CHICAGO-The 52-story 330 N. Wabash, has just received the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star designation. Prime Group Realty Trust, the property’s management company, oversaw the new measures that would rank the office tower in the top 25% of buildings across the country for its energy efficient methods.

“The entire building population – management, staff, and tenants – is responsible for this achievement at this all electric building. This recognition demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering energy costs for our owners and tenants,” says Susan Hammer, general manager of the building.

To achieve the Energy Star certification Prime Group implemented a number of energy saving measures. The company adjusted building equipment and established protocol for operational procedures based on exterior weather and temperature conditions. The lighting system and other equipment was put on a schedule that was based on building occupancy at various times of the day.

Additionally, Prime Group managed to get tenants to commit to green measures in their office environments. To continue to green movement, Prime Group will update tenants on new energy efficient methods that could be implemented.

Commercial buildings that received the Energy Star designation utilize roughly 35% less energy than their counterparts. Also they release 35% less carbon dioxide.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to preserving our environment and our natural resources, ” says Jean Lupinacci, chief of EPA’s ENERGY STAR Commercial and Industrial branch, in a statement. “ From office buildings to hotels, supermarkets to schools, the ENERGY STAR distinguishes those organizations who are taking environmental responsibility into their own hands.”
