ROCKVILLE, MD-BioMed Realty Trust has expanded its Maryland footprint with the acquisition of five life-science buildings for $53 million. The portfolio, consisting of 218,000 square feet located at 9704-9714 Medical Center Dr., is fully leased to the J. Craig Venter Institute, a genomic researcher.

This acquisition is the second this year by BioMed along the I-270 Corridor. In March the company acquired two life-science buildings–for $14.4 million—in Gaithersburg. Located at 55 and 65 W. Watkins Mill Rd., they total 82,400 square feet and are fully leased to MedImmune and GenVec.
