Business Casual – 10.12.2010Business Week ran an article in its current issue about the devolving state of casual business attire. The point of the article is that business casual is now defined as “ultra-beach” casual. It’s out-of-control. Do you recall “casual Friday” when we were first allowed to wear pressed kakis and a well-starched sport shirt (or even more extreme, an Izod). I confess that I am a conservative, and believe that full business attire should be the norm, every day, day-in and day-out. At the extreme, a sport coat, collared shirt and slacks–maybe on Friday. And while I am on the subject, I am also appalled that at a Broadway show, at $200 a pop for a ticket, the crowd looks like they just came off the set of Gilligan’s Island! Okay, so what, Mr. LoPinto, is the point? Well, if you are on a job hunt, and have an interview, notwithstanding the fact that the interviewer will be wearing shorts and a tie-died polo shirt, you should wear a suit and tie, and please, polish your shoes.
