BROOKLYN, NY-The Related Cos. is negotiating lease deals with J.C. Penney Co. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. about anchoring a shopping center west of Howard Beach in southeast Brooklyn. The scope for the 630,000-square-foot development was backed by J.C. Penney’s interest.

J.C. Penney and Wal-Mart would occupy nearly 150,000 square feet each in the proposed Gateway Center II plaza. Opponents of possible Wal-Mart development in are trying to prevent Related’s purchase of a 21-acre mall site from the state. For the full story, go to Wall Street Journal .
