Heated by the desert sun, the pavement outside Metrocenter Mall was hot enough to penetrate the leather-soled loafers of brokers making the desperate dash from the parking lot to the mall’s welcoming air-conditioned interior. August is a time when Phoenix residents spend most of their days cooped up indoors, so few of its tenant representatives were likely to pass up an opportunity to stretch their legs in the mall’s spacious corridors, enjoy complimentary food and drinks and sign up for an iPad giveaway during an open house event hosted by the mall’s new owner, Carlyle Development Group.
