On Friday the beleaguered healthcare facility received approval from the state for key components of its closure plan, which were submitted earlier in the week, according to Crain’s New York Business.

The New York State Dept. of Health gave the go-ahead for SUNY Downstate to direct LICH to “cease admitting patients from its emergency department at noon on July 22, 2013.” The Cobble Hill, Brooklyn hospital will continue to operate its ED with all supportive ancillary services, including laboratory, radiology, social work and pharmacy, until July 29, Crain’s states. DOH also approved a plan for LICH to transfer or discharge all remaining inpatients on or before July 28. LICH will cancel all elective surgeries as of July 22, and must notify patients and doctors of the cancellations so that procedures can be re-scheduled at other facilities.
