MINNEAPOLIS—The Metropolitan Airports Commission Board has just voted unanimously to award Graves Hospitality the right to own, develop and manage the first full-service hotel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. GH will enter into a ground lease on the site next to the US Postal Service facility, located on the roadway to Lindbergh Terminal.
The deal will help further shift the company's Twin Cities' profile. Last year, Minneapolis-based GH sold its Graves 601 Hotel located in downtown Minneapolis to New York-based Loews Hotels & Resorts. Graves officials said that the lucrative sale would help fund many new projects, including a collection of new restaurants and four or five hotels in Manhattan, Minnesota and Chicago. It also recently took over the management of two properties in St. Paul, accounting for almost half of the hotel rooms in that city's downtown.
“Repeatedly, strategic reinvestment has proven to be a keystone of our company's success,” Ben Graves, president and chief executive officer, told GlobeSt.com.
The company plans to open the luxury, 300-room hotel before the 2018 Super Bowl, which will be held in Minneapolis. GH owns and manages hotels under brands such as Hilton, Radisson, IHG and Marriott, and will formally announce this hotel's brand in a few months. Graves adds that it will have a convenient connection to the main terminal via skyway – allowing guests to freely move between the terminal and the hotel.
“The hotel's positioning offers the best of both worlds,” he said. “Easy access for both vehicles arriving locally and travelers coming from the airport, means this hotel, with its beautiful spa, destination dining and exceptional meeting spaces will be a very valuable asset for both travelers and the local community.”
