Once home to small fast-food franchises, a vitamin store and a bookstore, the three-story building at 989 Third Ave. on the SE corner of 59th Street is now largely occupied by home furnishing retailers. Vacated and renovated over the past two years, the lead tenant is Arte, a Belgium-firm that specializes in wall coverings and fabrics. It took approximately 300 sf on the ground floor, 1,000 sf on the second, and 700 sf on the third.

It is joined by Zuber, a handblocked wall coverings manufacturer (340 sf on the ground floor for a showroom), Bengal House, a maker of fabrics and textiles (510 sf on the ground floor, also for a showroom) and Nazimal rugs (600 sf on the ground floor, 1,600 sf on the second and 600 sf on the third). Also, Wireless Warehouse leased 300 sf on the ground floor and Bellisima, a retailer of women’s apparel, leased 400 sf there, too.
