The bad news is that more than 3.4 million sf is going down. At least six industrial centers will be paved over for the planned fifth runway. Another six centers will be adversely affected, according to a recent survey by Ellis Daws Properties Inc. Most of the companies in the development's path are cargo-related.
The good news is that landlords will be calling on developers to replace the demolished 3.4 million sf in a hurry. The airport pumps $14.8 billion a year into the north Georgia region economy. Hartsfield is ranked as the world's busiest airport in passenger traffic and 21st in cargo tonnage.
