The council's 4-0 vote reverses an earlier ruling made against the project by the Milpitas Planning Commission. The 132,922-sf store will be located at the Great Mall of the Bay Area.

The Home Depot is scheduled for a fall 2001 opening, at which time Home Depot will close an existing 80,000-sf store on Landess Avenue in Milpitas.

The Great Mall of the Bay Area, Northern California's largest shopping center, is being revamped by Florida-based Swerdlow Real Estate Group. In addition to the Home Depot, a two-level, 650-space parking deck and two surface parking lots have also been approved as part of the 1.6-million sf mall's redevelopment.
