SBC owner AFC Enterprises, however, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer Thursday that it spoke with Westlake Center owner Rouse Co. after Starbucks' announcement and was told it was still in the race. GlobeSt.com's source at the Rouse could not immediately be reached to settle the matter.
The two have been in a bidding war for the property that reportedly drove the annual lease rate for the 85-sf space to over $200 per sf. Walled space inside Westlake center averages $45 to $60 per square foot, while Kiosks can command up to $100 per square foot.
Seattle's Best Coffee originally took control of the location when City Roast went into bankruptcy.
