The seven-story building, which will have almost 200 rooms, will be operated by Marriott Conference Centers, a division of the Marriott hotel chain. The project is being hyped as a catalyst for Trenton's ongoing effort to revitalize its Downtown area. The price tag is in the $46 million range, and the scheduled opening is early 2002.
In lining up the project, Acquest organized a deal in which the private, non-profit Lafayette Yard Community Development Corp. issued $31 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance construction. The bonds were guaranteed by the city of Trenton.
