Call of the Tame: Port Wants Jack London Village for Hotel Development

OAKLAND, CA-A dozen businesses remain in the 25-year-old shopping center the port wants to raze and redevelop, but most have agreed to move out in the next 10 to 20 days. The port went to court this week to evict the rest.

A dozen businesses are said to remain in the woodsy 25-year-old shopping center. Most have agreed to move out in the next 10 to 20 days, and port lawyers filed action earlier this week in Alameda County Municipal Court against three who have not.

In negotiations for months with village merchants regarding compensation and relocation, the Port says demolition is scheduled within three months, and a groundbreaking is scheduled for next summer.
