The seven-story, 70,000-sf building once housed street-levelstores and upper-floor offices. It has been vacant for a number of yearsand in it demise, the interior was gutted. All wiring and pipes havebeen removed. Another problem is that the shell of a building hasno parking spaces available.

Some want the building razed, others see the possibility for renovationor conversion to loft apartments. A new urban blight task force convenedby Mayor Kay Barnes has put eliminating vacant buildings at the top ofthe priority list. Two possible financial measures to accomplish thisinclude the creation of a $1 million fund to renovate or raze structuressuch as the Law Building and another allocates $100,000 for clean up ofareas surrounding redeveloped Downtown buildings.
