Steve Becker, executive director of the Golden Urban Renewal Authority, says there have been other infill projects in Golden in recent years, but nothing comparable in size to Clear Creek Square. About 10% of the project cost is coming from the city's urban renewal authority.

The project, scheduled for completion in a year, includes 60,000 sf of office space, 20,000 sf retail space, 72 residential units and a parking structure with more than 300 parking spaces. "This is a unique project for our community," says Carol Harwood, the authority's chairwoman. "We conducted more than 200 public meetings and looked at nearly 10 different plans to create a facility that will not only enhance Golden's economy, but also will be representative of our city's historic character." Residents and businesses in Clear Creek Square will have quick and easy access to the Clear Creek nature trail and kayak run.

New Global Telecom, an international telecommunications company, will lease most of the office space for its world headquarters. The company, which employs about 250, formed a joint venture with Denver-based McBroom Co. to develop the project, which is being designed by Humphries-Poli Architects PC of Denver.

Rich Grange, NGT president and CEO, says Clear Creek Square offers significant benefits when it comes to its location in Golden's core, proximity to recreational facilities and close to restaurants and retail operations.
