Honeywell will receive a $20-million management fee to run thegovernment-owned plant, which has been active since 1949. Components suchas non-nuclear electronic, mechanical and metal pieces that keepexisting nuclear weapons operating are manufactured at the facility.
"We conducted a rigorous, competitive solicitation to choose the teambest equipped to manage and operate this key component of the nuclearweapons complex," read a statement released by Energy Secretary BillRichardson.
Previously, the plant had operated under the name of AlliedSignal Inc.and Bendix Corp. before that. It is located at 2000 E. Bannister Road.About 3,000 people work at the plant. During the mid 80's, the plant hada workforce nearly three times that size. Honeywell has announced a planto add about 250 jobs.
