"This will be more of an asset than what we might have had, such as a fast-food restaurant or drive-through bank," board member Andrew Bryant said at the panel's Monday night meeting.

Added developer's attorney Philip Shore, "this fills a void. It's the only market-based, age-restricted housing in the city."

A landmark furniture store will be razed to make way for the new Saint Georges Parkview. Units, for residents 55 and up, will be arrayed in two three-story buildings.
