Work, which began June 1, should take about 18 months to complete. Thenew structure will hold 1,330 vehicles and more than triple the oldlot's capacity of 400 spaces. A bridge will connect the northwest cornerof the garage and Haag and Royall Hall. Construction is being handled byTaylor Ball LC.
The parking structure is a much needed addition to the commuter campusand should alleviate not only parking problems, but also the controversywith surrounding neighborhoods as to whether the university should beallowed to purchase homes for the purpose of demolition and creation ofparking lots and a new athletic field.
