The council signed the agreement after dropping The Surnow Co.of WestBloomfield Township. A newly elected council had somephilosophicaldifferences with the former company about how todevelop the area,says William Hatley, community improvementdirector for the city.Surnow had created more big box developments,and the new council is lookingto create more of a traditional mainstreet, Hatley said.
He said Simeon will redevelop 15 acres, consisting of about 15old shops andstructures and a parking lot.Hatley said the councilhas allotted about $4 million to acquire the land attheintersection of M-85 and M-39, and has so far negotiated purchasesforabout one-third of the property.
