The expansion effort in the Garden State is being shepherded by the New Jersey Division of Garrick-Aug, headed by scion James Aug, who is also CEO of the New York-based parent company. In the last 18 months, the division has been responsible for all of NYSC's New Jersey leases, plus 30 Sears Specialty Division stores and 13 Circuit City Electronics Stores. Locations have also been secured for 50 Paps John Pizzas, 15 of which have been consummated.
The chain operates under the New York banner here in New Jersey, but in other cities, it bears the name of its location. So, for example, Philadelphia Sports Club and Boston Sports Club are part of the parent company. The chain offers "passports" to members traveling out of town for use in its sports clubs up and down the Northeast Corridor.
