C&S will acquire 185 of Grand Union's 197 stores, plus a distribution center in Upstate New York. At its peak, the chain had 900 stores from Canada to Florida along the East Coast, and west to Texas. But tough times and three trips to bankruptcy court melted that down to less than 200 units, all in the Northeast.
The sale still requires approval of FTC antitrust regulators and Federal Bankruptcy Court in Newark. Both are expected.
