A city council committee, as well as the full council, has heard and approved the plans brought forth by the planning, zoning and economic development committee. These plans call for tighter restrictions in the 10-acre area located two miles south of the Country Club Plaza.
Building tenants will not be allowed to occupy more than 10,000 sf, with the exception of grocery stores, which may be up to 25,000 sf. Parking restrictions will also be put into place as well as design standards. The area recently came under scrutiny after owner Highwoods Properties and an Amoco gasoline station owner could not come to terms on a lease, after which the station closed and talks surrounded the possible opening of a Starbuck's coffee house.
