Schiapparelli will use it for operational, sales, R&D and lab purposes. The 50-year-old Bologna, Italy-based Alfa Wasserman, a prescription drug maker, acquired Schiapparelli Biosystems Inc. two years ago to break into the diagnostic side of the business in North America. Sciapparelli makes bioseparations and produces vaccines, and the division is moving to the new location from its former Fairfield, NJ headquarters.
Structural reconstruction of the building, which was conceived and designed by the Aztec Group of Iselin, NJ, entails construction of an atrium. Interior renovations included construction of offices, labs and a small assembly operations space. Total cost of the rehab project is just under $5 million.
