Schiapparelli will use it for operational, sales, R&D andlab purposes. The 50-year-old Bologna, Italy-based Alfa Wasserman,a prescription drug maker, acquired Schiapparelli Biosystems Inc.two years ago to break into the diagnostic side of the business inNorth America. Sciapparelli makes bioseparations and producesvaccines, and the division is moving to the new location from itsformer Fairfield, NJ headquarters.

Structural reconstruction of the building, which was conceivedand designed by the Aztec Group of Iselin, NJ, entails constructionof an atrium. Interior renovations included construction ofoffices, labs and a small assembly operations space. Total cost ofthe rehab project is just under $5 million.
