San Diego-based Henry's Marketplace will open at least eight new stores in the two counties over the next year, company officials say.

The San Diego-based chain was acquired last year by Boulder, CO-based Wild Oats Markets Inc., the top U.S. natural foods retailer with more than 110 supermarkets operating under several nameplates, including Wild Oats Community Market, Alfalfa's and Nature's Fresh. Henry¹s has opened stores in Yorba Linda and Laguna Niguel over the last two months.

At the same time, the chain announced this week that it will close its original store at University and College avenues. The Boney family founded the chain in the 1970s.

The stores were known for years as Boney's markets, but the sons decided to change the brand to their father¹s first name a couple of years ago.
