Wayport now provides Internet access at Dallas-Ft. Worth, Austin Bergstrom and Seattle-Tacoma International airports. The company is preparing to bring San Jose International Airport on line within 30 days, Dave Vucina, Wayport's CEO, tells GlobeSt.com. "In addition to San Jose, we will be adding two more major market airports by June 2001," he says.
The additional 350 hotels will be wired with Wayport's high-speed and wireless access by mid-2001, taking its hotel portfolio to 500. The hotel portfolio includes contracts with chains such as Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts and Sonesta Hotels & Resorts and MeriStar Hotels & Resorts, which manages Hilton, Sheraton, Westin, Radisson and Doubletree hotels.
The company's fourth funding round has been led by BA Venture Partners and Lucent Venture Funds. As part of the transaction, Lucent and BA Venture Partners, the venture capital affiliate of Bank of America, will each hold a seat on Wayport's board of directors.Invesco was a new investor in this round. Returning investors include Sevin Rosen Funds, Trellis Partners and New Enterprise Associates.
Wayport, founded four years ago, is headquartered at 8303 N. Mopac Blvd. in the Humana Buildings. The company provides access to the Internet for people at airports, hotels and conference centers through wired and wireless Ethernet card connections. Wayport's service allows travelers to send and receive e-mail and access the Internet or their corporate intranet, throughout the airport and in hotel guestrooms, meeting rooms and public areas.
