The saga began in 1984 when Quadrant Homes, the residential subsidiary of Quadrant Corp., first submitted its plans. Over the past 17 years, more than 30 public hearings have taken place, where activist groups made objections to the development and local residents' concerns were voiced by state and county agencies. Some had argued for a rezoning of the project as rural. But, this past June, the Central Sound Growth Management Hearings Board upheld Redmond Ridge's status as a fully contained urban community.

According to sources, Quadrant Commercial expects to break ground by April 2001 for a 57,000-sf business park within the planned community. The project, described as a high-tech office complex, at the corner of NE Marketplace Drive and Redmond Ridge Drive NE, has an anticipated completion date of October 2001.
