Expected to be completed in fall 2002, the 14-story apartment building would go up on what is now a parking lot. The land, situated between the school and Grady Memorial Hospital, is owned by the Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority.

For years, GSU was a commuter school. It got its first dorms, for 2,000 students, in 1996 as part of the Olympic Village built on the Georgia Tech Campus north of the central business district near Midtown. Both undergraduate and graduate students live in the dorms. GSU's long-range plans call for the addition off 2,000 beds within a mile radius of the campus.

Construction on the 370-bed building would begin upon the closing of a bond arrangement. The foundation would own the building and planned adjacent parking deck. The rooms, each with a small kitchen, will be geared toward graduate, married and international students.
