On Dec. 23 a 4.5-mile section of the Price Freeway will open totraffic. The section , which runs from Gaudalupe Road to the futureSantan Freeway, is the first freeway to open in the fast growingsuburb of Phoenix. Chandler has an average of 271 new homes builtwithin its boundaries every month.
"Chandler continues to bring a lot of people in," says ChandlerMayor Jay Tibshraeny. "One of the things those people talk about tome is improving freeways in the Valley."
Chandler was the first city in the Valley to accelerate freewayconstruction by a year by paying the interest on an ArizonaDepartment of Transportation loan, which funded the freewayconstruction. The city split the $600,000 in interest payments withretail developer Westcor, which is building three retail projectsalong the route.
