The buildings originally housed vaudeville shows when they were constructed in the 1920s and most recently operated as movie theaters. They will soon undergo yet another reincarnation, after a projected six months of renovations, to reopen as performing arts centers.
Owned for more than 50 years by LA-based Metropolitan Theatres, thebuildings had operated as cinemas for decades. Both buildings had beenrecently sold by Metropolitan. The Palace was acquired by redeveloper Tom Gilmore, and The Orpheum was bought by Anjac Fashion Buildings.
