According to Mt Bachelor's 2000 annual report, the company has spent more than $20 million over the past five years--$5.4 million in 2000--to install new ski lifts and make other upgrades to keep the resort competitive. But flat attendance and weather have kept the resort from having its fifth year of profitability. Instead, the company is reporting a loss of $207,000 for the 12 months that ended July 31, 2000. According to the report, sales from ski lift tickets, concessions and other sources in 2000 were $21.6 million during that period, a decrease of 7.5% from the 1999 ski season. The company attributed the decline to poor early-season snowfall, which helped lower skier visits from 564,000 in 1999 to 480,000 this past season.
