Weingardt has worked on projects such as the Concourse C at the Denver International Airport and the Gerald Ford Amphitheater in Vail. Weingardt, founder and majority owner of the privately held firm, told GlobeSt.com that Colorado has bounced back, much like his company, from a late 1980s downturn. He attributes Colorado's rising fortunes to the construction of DIA and surrounding infrastructure; an increasing number of office buildings and headquarters for information technology companies and the cable industry; and specialty service industries such as environmental, high-tech and biotech companies.
Weingardt has rode out the commercial real estate slumps of the late 1960s and again in the late 1980s, enjoying the good times in between. The harshest blow came in the late 1980s when four of his major clients went bankrupt, just a few years after the first customer in his company's history had failed to make good on a debt. "There was a very strong upturn in the economy that started in the early 1990s and continuing into the 2000s," he says, marking an anniversary that he feels is a proxy for the region's health.
